Sophie Kane
Born and raised in Cardiff, Sophie qualified as an ASA Level 2 swimming instructor in 2015.
Throughout her career, Sophie has worked with learners spanning a wide age range, from toddlers to teens. She possesses a knack for tailoring her instruction to meet the needs of each individual, whether they're complete beginners or aspiring members of swim squads in 'pre-club' sessions.
During a two-year period in Australia, Sophie obtained the Australian equivalent of her swimming instructor qualification, enriching her skills.
Upon returning to the UK, Sophie made the decision to commit herself fully to teaching swimming and in 2019, she transitioned into a full-time role as a swimming instructor. She also completed her Autism Swim qualification, enhancing her ability to support students with additional learning needs effectively.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Sophie can be found enjoying the great outdoors. Last year she embarked on a memorable journey along the North Coast 500 in a campervan, enjoying the breathtaking beauty of Scotland's coastline and seizing the opportunity to swim at multiple beaches along the way. Ceannabeinne Beach stands out as a favourite swimming spot that left a lasting impression on her.
Sophie enjoyed a stint as a competitive swimmer for Cardiff at county level in her teenage years. Whilst competitive swimming wasn't her ultimate path, she cherishes the lessons and experiences gleaned from her time competing in the pool.
When asked about her top tip for aspiring swimmers, Sophie emphasises the importance of having fun and persevering. She firmly believes that enjoyment is the key to accelerated learning, both for children and adults alike.
Outside of work, Sophie enjoys outdoor activities such as travelling and participating in triathlons. She co-owns a triathlon coaching business, specialising in assisting amateur triathletes.
Sophie teaches children of all ages at Feltonfleet School on Mondays.
