Adam Messeder
Adam has been a Level 2 swimming instructor for over 15 years and is qualified to ASA Assistant Club Coach level.
Alongside swim teaching, Adam works as a Firefighter for West Sussex Fire and Rescue and has worked in the fire service for over 13 years.
His passion for water extends beyond the pool and the fire hose; Adam is a highly qualified scuba diving instructor and has taught diving all over the world, including in New Zealand, the Caribbean, Greece and Honduras and continues to teach SCUBA in the UK.
With a PE teacher mum, Adam was exposed to the fun and fitness benefits of competitive sports, which led to him representing the Royal Borough of Kingston at the London Borough Youth Games as well as Surrey at county-level swimming events. Backstroke was his main event and he competed in individual medley and relay events.
Adam’s working career in the pool began in 2004 when he started out as a lifeguard. After a short time poolside watching swimming lessons he saw the difference the teachers were making to young people and adults and decided it was time to learn how to teach. He completed his Level 2 course in 2007 and has taught many hundreds of children and adults how to swim since.
Adam's experience as a firefighter is invaluable when it comes to teaching - he has a calm and reassuring style and is an excellent communicator able to adjust his teaching style and language depending on the age, ability and size of his classes.
Adam teaches children and adults on Thursdays at Notre Dame School in Cobham and at Walton-on-Thames on Mondays. He also teaches school holiday crashes courses at Feltonfleet and Latchmere School in Kington-upon-Thames.
