Tanya Van Straaten
Tanya is a dedicated Level 2 swimming instructor with a lifelong connection to the water. Hailing from South Africa, her swimming journey began at the age of 5, leading her to compete in swimming events until the age of 18.
Recently returning to the UK, she now calls Claygate home and imparts her expertise to young learners at our Claremont Place Venue.
Born to British parents in South Africa, Tanya represented the province of Gauteng in competitive swimming.
With over eight years of teaching experience, she caters to both children and adults. Tanya's commitment to continuous improvement led her to attain parent and baby teaching qualifications in 2016, specialising in instructing infants as young as six months.
As a mother to a toddler, Tanya brings a unique perspective to her teaching, understanding the intricacies of how young learners absorb information. She strongly advocates the power of learning through play, emphasising a holistic approach to swimming education.
Beyond the pool, Tanya is a qualified first aider and leads a dynamic lifestyle, whether in the gym, immersed in a captivating book, or exploring her culinary passions. Holding a diploma in Culinary Art and a national qualification in cookery, her culinary skills match her accomplishments in the water.
However, Tanya's heart truly lies in sports, and her enthusiasm for an active lifestyle fuels her desire to inspire others. Always in motion, she continuously seeks to expand her knowledge and enhance her teaching quality.
Tanya finds fulfilment in the progress and achievements of her students, guided by her favourite coaching mantra: "Behind every fearless player is a fearless coach who refuses to let them be anything but the best they can be."
